Junior rider Finlay Tarling (Willebrord Wil Vooruit) broke the course record to win the Bynea CC 10, while Emma Davies (Port Talbot Wheelers) narrowly won the women’s event and youngster Mathys Venter (Cardiff Ajax CC) the road bike category.

Some of the strongest young riders in Wales were on the start list for the Glamorgan 10-mile event resulting in some exciting racing.

Tarling, aged 17, is the brother of INEOS Grenadiers professional and European Time Trial Champion Joshua Tarling.

The young Willebrord Wil Vooruit competitor stormed along the out and back A465 course towards Neath in a winning time of 18 minutes and 31 seconds.

Last season Tarling won three open time trial events amid a busy multi-discipline programme and he recorded a first open victory of 2024 in style.

Another multi-discipline rider Will Roberts (Saint Piran) was straight in action after success at the British Track Championships and won a close battle for second in 19-08.

Tarling receives his prize.

Fresh from riding the junior race Kurne-Brusssels-Kurne road race, it was a third-place finish on this occasion for Dylan Sage (Evolution Racing Academy) a further three seconds back.

The women’s event was a closely fought contest with Davies’ winning time of 24-50 a single second quicker than Stephanie Waring (Tenby Aces CC).

Veteran rider Davies was the last woman starter having finished in third position in the same event last season.

However, she bettered that position on this occasion to snatch victory ahead of Tenby Aces CC rider Waring.

Completing the women’s category podium positions was Hollie Labunsky (Port Talbot Wheelers) who stopped the clock in 25-24.

Junior rider Venter finished third in the National Road Bike Championship in his age category last season and recorded his first open individual victory on this occasion clocking 22-36.

Host club rider Ben Phillips finished second road bike in 23-13 ahead of Conrad Venter (Cardiff Ajax CC) in third (25-47).
