Loose Cannon’s Conditioning earned double success at Ipswich Bicycle Club’s 10-miler on Saturday with Matt O’Brien winning the open category and Becky Ridge finishing as fastest female.
Having won three of his five events this season, O’Brien picked up another here as he set 21-44 to finish ahead of Matthew Peck, riding for the promoting club, in 23-11, and the 23-28 set by CC Sudbury rider Ian Short.
On his win, O’Brien said: “It was pretty windy, but I’m getting used to that and it was nice to pick up the win.
“Next week contains a more leisurely lap of the Le Mans 24 hour circuit on Friday and a couple of drinks while watching the race before getting back to the VTTA evening series across the rest of June.”
O’Brien was also fastest on age adjusted time in 21-25, ahead of the 22-25 given to Ridge.
In the women’s event, Ridge was also far ahead of the field in 25-00, with Ann Shuttleworth (Cambridge Cycle Club) taking second place in 29-07.
Loose Cannon’s Conditioning also took the team prize for best three riders in 72-97, while West Suffolk Wheelers came second in a cumulative time of 91-06
This 10-mile course, on course B10/32, usually starts at Crowfield and heads towards Hemingstone, with riders taking the second exit and going north through Gosbeck, bearing left past Framsden then left to Pettaugh with the finish on Crowfield Road past Rose pub.
However, there was a last-minute change of course due to roadworks, with it being moved two laps of a five-mile circuit containing a higher gradient.
