Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) took victory in the Velo Club Cumbria 25 after riding to perceived effort rather than power data, while Kate Kirkland (Born to Bike - Bridgtown Cycle) was the quickest woman by over a minute.

Bideau, aged 53, saw his power metre break before the event but was able to judge his effort and record a second open victory of the season.

Starting near Braithwaite in Cumbria the L2529 saw competitors head down to the turn at Keswick before heading out and back along the A66 to the turn at Cockermouth.

Veteran rider Bideau came into the race as Spindata favourite after finishing third in the Kent Valley RC 10 and 25-mile events last weekend but was without a win since the VTTA North Lancs & Lakes 10 in April.

The Pendle Forest CC rider was on top form clocking 51-32 which was 54 seconds faster than his team-mate Jason Bateman in 52-26.

Completing the podium positions was Allistair Moffat (Velo Club Cumbria) in 53-05, who only just denied Pendle Forest CC a one-two-three as Paul Braithwaite finished fourth a further five seconds back.

Quickest youth rider Davey Allanson (360cycling) finished a respectable eighth position overall in 54-40.

Meanwhile, tricycle rider Brian Moore (The Tricycle Association - North Western Region) completed the course in 1-28-33.

“It was an unusual day for me, my power meter wasn't working and so it became the only time trial that I've paced on perceived effort,” said Bideau.

“I got it about right and was pleased with my ride. There were slow conditions today, rather cool and moderate wind making it slow out and fast back.”

In the women’s event Kirkland, aged 43, took her first open victory of the season stopping the clock in 1-03-34.

Kirkland placed fourth in the WattShop two-stage TT 25 earlier this month but went much quicker on this occasion to take victory.

Fellow veteran Sue Cheetham (North Lancashire Road Club) placed second in 1-04-56, while quickest junior Ayesha Vose (ESV Manchester) rounded off the overall podium taking third in (1-05-28).
