Deborah Moss claimed her seventh win this season with victory at the VTTA North Lancashire and Lakes 50-mile time trial, while Jack Levick was the fastest rider in the open category.

Moss, riding for Springfield Financial Racing Team, posted 2.02-53 to beat Samantha Howard (Mersey Tri) to the top prize, Howard having to settle for second place with 2:07-35, while Sue Cheetham of North Lancashire Road Club finished in third with a time of 2.15-13.

Moss came into this event off the back of a win at the Preston Wheelers 25-mile time trial last week and looking to defend her title from last year, emphatically doing so with over four minutes to spare on her nearest rival.

On her win, Moss said: “I’m really happy to win, the weather was atrocious at the start, it rained quite hard for the first five miles and it was only eight degrees, I was hoping for better weather in June!

“It was a tailwind up to the Cockermouth turn which was good as it drags up to there and I was praying it wasn’t raining at the Keswick turn as my feet were totally numb at this point.

“Thankfully it didn’t rain anymore and I dug deep to the finish. It took an hour for my feet to defrost!

“Many thanks also to Richard for organising and the marshals, time keepers and helpers for standing out in the awful weather.”

In the open category Rose Race Team rider Levick lived up to the billing of Spindata pre-race favourite to earn his fourth win this year, setting a time of 1.41-01 to ward off second placed Marcel Schubert (Zurbaran Racing) in 1.44-01 and Stuart Henderson (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo), who clocked 1.44-24 to finish third.

On his win, Levick said: “It was nice to head to the Lake District and it not be raining sideways for a change!

“It was my first 50-mile time trial of the year so I was a little unsure where I would be with the numbers but I ended up riding a pretty even split. I definitely left some in the tank but that was to be expected.”

Richard Bideau of Pendle Forest CC topped the veteran standings with an age-adjusted time of 1.40-25, ahead of Stuart Henderson who set 1.41-51 and Simon Horsley of Legato RT, his adjusted time 1.42-31 seeing him finish in third ahead of Marcel Schubert.

This 50-mile event, run on the L5012, begins just outside Braithwaite on the A66 where it heads to Keswick. After travelling toward Cockermouth and u-turning at Lamplugh roundabout, it heads back towards its start location to finish near Thornthwaite.

The team award was collected by Springfield Organic, with teammates Debbie Moss, Matt Stell, Theresa Taylor recording an age-adjusted time of 5.36-55
