Chris Booth

Chris Booth earned his first win of the 2024 season with victory at the Barrow Central Wheelers 21-mile time trial in Cumbria on Saturday morning, with Joanna Cebrat winning the women’s event.

Riding for Giant-Kendal-Sidas.uk, Booth clocked 46-46 to see off Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) who took the runners-up spot in 47-58, while the final spot on the podium went to Wigan Wheelers rider Matt Morris in 48-29.

In his previous four races this season Booth had managed third place on three occasions, at the Border City Wheelers CC 13, the Border City Wheelers CC 20.2 and the North Lancashire Road Club 50 Circuit of the Dales on April 7.

On his win, Booth said: “I had a really good race and was surprised by the performance.

“Following a bike fit two weeks ago, I was racing in the new position for the first time.

“It felt solid and I was able to put out a smooth, controlled effort. I'm not riding with power so just used my heart rate to gauge.

“I thought I'd overcooked it at the halfway point but managed to chug it out coming back into a small headwind.”

Joanna Cebrat

I've got a few things in mind for the season. Firstly I want to ride a sub-19 ten on Levens. I've got one eye on the North Lancashire TTA points competition and if all goes well I may enter the National 10 in September for the first time.

Promoting club rider Richard Morgan finished as quickest road bike rider and 14th overall in 54-01, ahead of Todd Oates (Kendal Cycle Club) in 55-50.

In the women’s event, Cebrat (360cycling) set the fastest time in 57-00, with 1:01-31 helped Sue Cheetham of North Lancashire Road Club to second place, and Ayesha Vose (ESV Manchester) was edged into third place after clocking 1:01-56.

“It was one of the most picturesque time trial courses I have ridden,” said Cebrat. “It's a great coastal road with fun climbs and descents.

“It was really well organised by Barrow Central Wheelers, I will surely be back next year...”

This event, run on course L212, is an out-and-back circuit that starts south-east of Ulverston and heads southbound past Bardsea Bay and through Baycliff until reaching Roose roundabout before turning and retracing the outbound course to finish on the A5087 opposite the start point.
