Rose Willis (St Austell Wheelers) finished over six minutes clear of her nearest rival in the women’s category at the Giant Helston/Tri Logic 50, while Conrad Moss (Nopinz) won the open event in wet and blustery conditions.
The St Austell Wheelers rider turned 50 earlier this month and clinched her third open victory of the season in a time of 2-26-22.
The S120/50 saw competitors complete two out and back laps along the A30 in Cornwall between Bodmin and Indian Queens.
Calm weather in the early hours made way for high winds and rain ready for the start in Cornwall.
The undulating course runs on a dual carriageway through the Bodmin Moor and is exposed to the elements, which hindered riders on Sunday.
Willis last tasted victory in the Giant Helston 25 in June and went one better than her runner-up finish in last weekend’s Exeter Wheelers CC 25.
Talita Ancona (Total Tri Training) finished second woman in 2-33-03 and Lindsay Philip (Kernow Racing Team) was third (2-39-51).
In the open event Moss, aged 49, took his third victory of the season in a time of 1-42-26 – over two minutes clear of his nearest opponent.
The Nopinz rider also won the Giant Helston and Mid Devon Cycling Club events over 25 miles on his last two outings and recorded another win on this occasion.
Alexander Royle (Manchester Bicycle Club) has won three open events this season but had to settle for runner-up on this occasion in 1-44-53.
Completing the podium positions was another veteran, Donald Brooks (Mid Devon Cycling Club), who stopped the clock in 1-51-50.
“It was wild, wet and windy,” said Moss. “We’ve been battered in the South West for a few days with high winds.
“The forecast was that we’d miss it today. At the headquarters when we arrived at 5.30am I thought we were in for a good day.
“However, the wind and rain then came in and it was blowing a gale, it was horrible. It’s the first its run on those roads and it’s potentially quick.
“I’ve done a short 47-minute time for a 25-mile event on there.”
The quickest junior was Thomas Tregear (Kernow Racing Team) who stopped the clock in 2-08-53.
The fastest veteran over 50 was Ken Holder (City Cycle Couriers RT) in 1-59-15 and veteran over 60 was Mark Sanders (Mid Devon Cycling Club) in 1-58-54.
