Gemma Waterjohns picked up her first win of the season with victory in the female category at the Exeter Wheelers 25-mile time trial in Devon on Sunday morning, while Jon Tune was fastest in the open category.
Riding for Team Tor 2000 Kalas, Waterjohns clocked 1:10-54 to take a win ahead of Rose Willis (St Austell Wheelers Cycling Club) in 1:13-11, while City Cycle Couriers rider Katya Tune came home in 1:14-33 for third place.
Waterjohns had previously claimed second at the Alltrax 10-mile time trial on June 29, after fourth at the St Piran / Northover Vets Team 25-mile time trial on May 9, having opened her account with third place at the 10-mile Cranbrook Cycling Club time trial on April 2.
On her win, Waterjohns said: “This is a great course, I prefer this to a flat one!
“It was lumpy and quite draggy, and when the wind picked up it was a bit tough towards the end!
“I felt pretty good, I have not had a massive season with racing this year so I am pleased to finally get a win!”
City Cycle Couriers Race Team rider Jon Tune came out on top in the open category in 56-11, 40 seconds clear of runner-up Lloyd Copp (Okehampton Cycling Club) in 58-55, with Tritan Kelsall-Spur, of the promoting club, 58-55 while also taking the prize for top road bike rider.
“I am really happy with the win today,” said Tune after victory.
“It’s a great course and tougher than the profile would lead you to believe. It is pretty technical in places, but it is nice to race on quiet roads for a change. The weather gods were kind but there was a stiff headwind in places.
“The event was really well organised, so thanks to Greg and the team for organising and giving up their time to run and support the event.”
