Steve Lampier returned to winning ways with a dominant victory by almost two minutes in the open category at the Kernow Racing 10-mile time trial, while Beth Berriman finished as quickest female in Cornwall on Sunday morning.

Riding for the promoting club, Lampier made it eight wins from nine events in 2024, having held an unbeaten record until finishing second at the Alltrax 10-mile time trial on S4/10 on July 10, to end his run of seven straight victories.

In this event, he set a new course record of 20-44, ahead of runner-up John Steadman (Pure Endurance) who managed 22-50 for second, while Lampier’s clubmate Anthony Green was third in 23-26 to complete the podium places.

On his win, Lampier said: “This was a different but nice version of a Cornish classic time trial course.

“It was a slog to the turn and fast back but I squeezed it out and hung on, on the return.

“I am happy to get the win along with my win on Wednesday at the Wadebridge Coasters time trial shows form coming back after some illness.”

Penzance Wheelers rider Berriman set 26-38 to seal victory in the women’s event, ahead of Rose Willis (St Austell Wheelers) in 27-35, while Gila Freudenthal (Kernow Racing) claimed third spot narrowly behind in 27-50.

There was more success for the promoting club, with Lee Barr the fastest open road bike in 25-16, and Bridget Buchanan quickest female road bike in 31-00, with another club rider in Holly Tregear taking the top junior prize in 31-23.

Numerous riders’ times this morning were affected on course due to multiple steam engines disrupting the course.

This event, run on the S6/10A course, starts just north of Ladock and heads north on the B3275 and continues through Burthy Farm Solar Park until reaching Penhale, where riders turn and follow the same route back southbound to finish just by the start line just north of Ladock.
