Rose Willis

Rose Willis picked up her second victory of the season in less than perfect conditions at the Giant Helston 25, while Steve Lampier (Kernow Racing Team) added another win to his collection in the open event.

Meanwhile, the road bike category was the closest of the day with Ben Carthy (Plymouth Corinthian CC) finishing just 15 seconds of his only competitor.

The S100/25 saw riders start outside Roche before joining the A30 and two out-and-back laps down to Indian Queens.

Competitors avoided the forecasted rain but a typically Cornish mizzle-filled day impacted on time somewhat.

Willis, aged 49, won the Kenrow Racing Team 10 earlier this season and took her second open win of the season in 1-06-53.

The only other female competitor was veteran Zelah Morrall (Tri Logic Cornwall) who posted a time of 1-09-11 on her road bike.

In the open event pre-race favourite Lampier, aged 40, lived up to the tag posting a winning time of 49-52.

The Kernow Racing Team rider was the only one to break the 50-minute barrier on his way to taking another open victory.

Veteran Tom Scorer (Royal Navy Cycling) has two open wins to his name this season but had to settle for runner-up on this occasion in 50-35.

Meanwhile, visiting Frome and District Wheelers competitor Tony Chapman completed the open podium positions in 51-51.

“The course on the main A30 should be a fast one,” said Lampier. “However, heavy pressure and low clouds meant that it wasn’t a fast day, but I gave it what I had.

“I’m enjoying racing the local time trial scene especially close to home and run by my good mate James Groggan.

“I had to support it and do a ride. My form is good as I’m not full-time anymore.

“But after two years off I’m well off where I was. I’m happy considering. I have six or seven time trials left in the South West and I may do the National 10!”

After winning the Mid Devon Cycling Club event in the road bike category, Ben Carthy (Plymouth Corinthian CC) added another win to his collection stopping the clock in 57-55.

Pushing him all the way was Nigel Polkinghorne (Duchy Velo) who finished just 15 seconds behind in 58-10.
