Matty Beecher earned a maiden overall time trial win at the Kernow Racing Team 10-mile time trial on Saturday morning, with Sophie Butcher finishing as fastest female.

Riding for 05/03, Beecher clocked 21-18 to finish top of the standings ahead of Plymouth Corinthians rider Andrew Parnowski in 22-05, while a time of 22-18 helped Ollie Baylin (Giant Helston) to seize the final spot on the podium by seven seconds from fourth-placed team-mate James Grogan in 22-25.

Beecher’s first overall victory came in his third open time trial, having finished third overall and first road bike at the Saint Piran South West District Championship 19 in September last year and second at the Kernow Racing Team 10-mile time trial on S37/10 course on March 10 this year.

On his win, Beecher said: “I went into the race feeling in a good place after a great winter of training, and also picking up a second place to Steve Lampier who broke the course record at Goodhilly, last month, so my confidence was high.

“There were some brutal windy conditions with a tail wind out. I decided to go very hard out and just hang on, on the turn and it seemed to have worked.

“It was a tough return leg with the head wind but managed to get over the line in a decent time still. Extremely happy with how I felt today.”

In the women’s event, 05/03 saw more success with Butcher clocking 27-36 for victory, ahead of St Austell Wheelers’ Rose Willis who was 20 seconds back in 27-56, with Lindsey Philp picking up third place with 28-37.

“I’m super happy with how I rode today’s race in the windy conditions,” said Butcher. “The race was a perfect way to get some hurt in the legs in preparation for next weekend’s Penzance Wheelers Land’s End 29-mile time trial!”

In other categories the fastest road bike prize went to Huw Greenish of Truro CC in 23-28, while Beth Berriman was fastest female road bike in 27-46.

Wheal Velocity rider Jed Claxton took the quickest junior prize with a time of 23-09.

This event, initially due to be on the S100/10 course. However, following a course change due to the wind riders took to the S6/10 near Ladock for shelter on a blustery but dry morning with a good tailwind on the outward leg.
