Tom Scorer opened his 2024 campaign with victory at the Kernow Racing Team 10-mile time trial in Cornwall on Sunday, with Rose Willis taking the honours in the female category.
Riding for the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Cycling Association, Scorer clocked 21-22 to see off competition from Tim McEvoy (FTP Fulfil the Potential RT) in 21-53, while Andrew J Parnowski finished in 22-37 to help the Plymouth Corinthian CC to the final spot on the podium.
Scorer will be hoping to build on a successful 2023 season that him register seven wins from 11 time trials across the campaign.
In the road bike group, Huw Greenish (Truro CC) finished in 23-33 to top the standings and take seventh overall, with Jamie Grant (C&C) runner-up and 20th overall in 25-12, while a time of 25-18 helped Kernow Racing Team’s Chris Dominey to third spot.
Riding for St Austell Wheelers CC, Willis secured a dramatic victory in 27-53, narrowly ahead of Penzance Wheelers CC rider Angharad Berriman who was runner-up and first road bike in 27-53, while Sophie Butcher of 05/03 took third place in 28-07.
On her win, Willis said: “It was a tough race but it was great to see so many riders and especially more women racing which is great.
“Thanks to all the organisers and helpers and especially to Kernow RT for promoting the races and keeping the time trialling scene alive and kicking.”
This event, run on the S6/10 course, starts just northeast of Tresillian and heads northeast bound on the B3275, continuing through Ladock and Newmills, turning at Brighton roundabout, then retracing back through Newmills then Ladock to find just north of the start line.
