Johnstone Wheelers won The Georgetown Cup for a third consecutive season, as a large number of riders battled for team honours in Scotland.

Held over the out and back Georgetown Road (B790), Houston, course The Georgetown Cup is a prestigious team event in which the fastest eight riders from each club make up the team’s combined time.

Johnstone Wheelers set a team record last season with a combined time of 2-07-23 and despite being a minute slower on this occasion they were clear victors once again.

Junior rider Evan Marsh led the way for his team clocking the quickest time of the day of 14-27.

Marsh was competing in his first open time trial of the season and won his first ever open event finishing 19 seconds ahead of Basil Monks (Edinburgh Road Club) in second (14-46) and Nico Anelli (Real Guts Racing) in third on scratch (14-55).

Marsh was joined by team-mates Iain McTavish (15-32), Matthew Evans (16-00), Ian Archibald (16-17), Gregg Kerr (16-27), Robert Gunson (16-27), Andy Kelly (16-35) and Sam Edgar (16-36) to win The Georgetown Cup.

Finishing second team were VC Glasgow South in a combined 2-13-31 and Fullarton Wheelers were third (2-15-11).

The women’s individual event was won by Jude Paterson (RT 23) who covered the 7.5-mile course in a time of 17-38.

Patterson, aged 53, from Ayr, finished runner-up in the Loudoun Road Club event in April and went one better this time out.

Amy McQueen (Ronde Cycling Club) finished second woman individually on this occasion in 18-15 and Aileen Fisher (Ayr Roads CC) was third (20-40).

“It was really good,” said Patterson. “It’s the first time that I’ve ever done thar course, I certainly enjoyed it.

“It’s a good and flat circuit on quiet roads. The Georgetown Cup is not too long distances which suited me. I’m a track rider as well so I quite enjoyed the shorter distance.

“The weather was quite nice, not windy but a bit misty. There was a good number of riders out, it wasn’t too cold and was ideal conditions.”

Johnstone Wheelers also dominated the road bike category with Matthew Evans leading the way in a time of 16-00.

He was followed 49 seconds behind by team-mate Lewis Mulholland in 16-49, while
Vincenzo Severino (VC Glasgow South) finished third (17-06).
