David Mead defied Spindata pre-race predictions to claim the win at the AeroCoach 15-mile time trial, also acting as the Midland District Championship, on Saturday morning, while Denise Burrows emerged victorious in the female category.

A gap of more than a minute between first and second place saw veteran Mead (Team Enable - MI Racing) take the win and the Midland Champion jersey with an impressive ride of 30-56, having been predicted to finish second in 31-20 by Spindata.

This also maintains Mead’s seven-event winning streak, dating back to his second ride of the 2024 season at the A5 Rangers Cycling Club 17-mile time trial on April 27.

On his win, he said: “The event was really well-run and the conditions for the race good although apparently not a super-fast day.

“I was happy with my performance as I bettered my Spindata prediction.

“The middle part of the course had some recent surface dressing so that was a bit tough but the rest of the course was a good with relatively low traffic.”

In second place came Will Deely of George Fox Cycling Solutions in 31-57, and third place went to Joseph Grey in 32-22 riding for Cheltenham and County CC.

Elsewhere, fastest road bike was claimed by Luke Allen of Worcester St Johns CC in 34-47.

In the women’s event Denise Burrows, riding for AeroCoach, retained her Midland Championship title from last year with 38-50, ahead of local rider Celia Doyle from Beacon Roads CC in 39-03 and third place went to Libby Danckert from Army Cycling in 40-14.

Riders enjoyed warm weather and low winds for the first time in a few years for the district championships in Malvern, while the event was also the penultimate race for longstanding timekeeper Sue Kelly after 29 years of work with clubs across the region.

This event, run on the K47/15, is a looped circuit that starts just north of Welland and heads southbound on the B4208 past Castlemorton, turning eastbound on the A428 until Long Green, turning northbound to complete the penultimate leg up to Upton-upon-Severn, then westbound on the A4101 to the finish at Welland, just east of the start line.
