Alex Dowsett claimed a new course record on his way to victory at the Redditch Road and Path CC 10-mile time trial in Worcestershire, while Denise Burrows finished top of the standings in the women’s event on Saturday afternoon.

Dowsett (Nopinz) crossed the line in 19-24 to break the existing mark and beat Tom Ward by 19 seconds, with the WardPerformanceUK.com rider finishing in 19-53, while a time of 20-10 from Toby Bush (Team Bottrill) earned him third place.

In the women’s event, Burows (AeroCoach) managed 25-19, with runner-up Debbie Hodson clocking 30-57 for Worcester St Johns CC.

On her win, Burrows said: “Having ridden the same race last year in a sweltering 29 degrees it was a far more comfortable 20 degrees today, though with a reasonably brisk headwind out to fight against.

“The return leg benefited from a tailwind, but this deceptively undulating course meant it wasn't a smooth running pedal back!

“It was nice to win with a female course record, and big thanks to Redditch Road and Path CC for putting it on and Woodcote Brewing Co for the winner's beers!”

Riders enjoyed sunshine and 22 degrees and rode out into a head wind but enjoyed a tail wind back.

Toby Bush set a new junior course record of 20:10, beating the previous time set by Jeremy MacLean by 23 seconds (20:33).

Quickest road bike went to Luke Allen (Worcester St Johns CC) in 22-57, while he also helped his club to the fastest team prize alongside Paul Guest and Andrew Daniel in a combined time of 1:09-08. And Simon Dighton (Beacon Roads CC) was fastest veteran on standard.

The event used the K34/10f course, an out and back course between Flyford Flavell and Spetchley.
