Monica Greenwood (Macclesfield Wheelers) took her first open hill climb victory in the Glossop Kinder Velo Cycling Club event on Snake Pass, while junior rider Harry Hudson (Harrogate Nova Race Team) continues to impress and won the open event.

Greenwood, aged 35, won an open hill climb event last season and opened her account for 2024 with a winning time of 17 minutes and 38 seconds.

The 3.2-mile-long climb starts outside Glossop and climbs on the A57 (Snake Road) towards Sheffield.

The climb has an average gradient of 5.7% and is exposed after the opening section.

Greenwood previously finished 15th in the National Hill Climb Championships in 2021 and showed good form to clinch victory in the women’s event by over a minute.

Helena Shapton (Brother Uk - Team OnForm) was competing in her first open event and finished runner-up in 19-14.

Meanwhile, quickest junior female rider Ruby Blanc (360cycling) completed women’s overall podium positions in 19-32.

Fastest female youth rider Isla Bestwick (ESV Manchester) was 10th in the female category in 29-05.

“There were some really tough conditions out there so it was a lot longer than I would have hoped,” said Greenwood. “I tried to pace conservatively as I think you can go quite hard out of the start and do some damage.

“It was really nice to get a number on and do my first open hill climb of the season.

“I am going to do Crown Point and Monsal and then decide about the National Championships.”

Junior rider Hudson was quickest rider on the day taking the opening category by 50 seconds in a winning time of 13-08.

Hudson won the National Hill Climb Championship in the junior category last season and took overall victory in the Team Lifting Gear Products hill climb event on Sir William Hill earlier this season.

Maxwell Hereward (360cycling) was the only other rider to dip under the 14-minute mark, finishing second in 13-58.

Completing the open podium positions was Laurence Fryer-Taylor (Macclesfield Wheelers) who posted 14-47.

Meanwhile, quickest youth rider was Harper Johnson (360cycling) whose time of 16-05 was good enough for 10th position overall.

Fastest veteran in a youthful top 20 was Thijs Geurts (Macclesfield Wheelers) who finished 19th in 17-01.
