Toby Williams sealed a dramatic victory at the Manchester & District Ladies Cycling Association 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, with Alice Taylor winning the women’s event.
Riding for Velotik Racing Team, Williams claimed top spot in hotly-contested event that saw the top four separated by just 15 seconds.
Williams finished in 21-10 to beat HUUB-WattShop’s Casper Von Folsach by just three seconds, while third place went to Alastair Ribbands (Congleton CC – My Windsock) in 21-18, eight seconds ahead of Williams’ clubmate David James Williams in fourth place.
In the women’s event, Taylor (Congleton CC – MyWindsock) also edged a tight finish, clocking 23-29 for victory with Anna Weaver (Team Kirkley Cycles) four seconds off top spot in 23-33, while Taylor’s clubmate Claire Harrison was third in 24-45.
The prize for fastest junior went to Jacob Bradbury of Manchester Wheelers in 23-40, while a time of 28-59 helped Sue Satchithananda (Crewe Clarion Wheelers) to finish as fastest female road bike.
Prizes for the three fastest combined times of women together with the invitational riders went to Ribbands invited by Taylor, Nicholas Smith (ESV Manchester) in 24-58 invited by Weaver, and Williams, invited by Sally Cunliffe.
Competitors enjoyed good weather but faced some course issues due to emergency roadworks and a lot of tractors out on the course, affecting some riders but not others.
This 10-mile event, run on the J4/20 course, starts just east of Byley on Moss Lane and continues eastbound to Cranage before turning northbound to Allostock then the B5081 to Toft where riders head south to pass Lower Peover and Swan Green, finishing just before Hulme Hall Lane.
