David James Williams

David James Williams continued his fine early-season form with victory at the Manchester and District Time Trial Association 10-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday morning, while Alice Taylor won the women’s category.

Riding for Velotik Racing Team Williams set an unbeaten 20-48, with Weaver Valley CC rider Lloyd Smith the runner-up in 22-13, while a time of 22-15 helped Richard Bowditch (Congleton CC – MyWindsock) to the final spot on the podium.

With five wins from seven events so far this campaign, including wins at the Manchester and District TTA 25-mile time trial and the Mid-Shropshire Wheelers two-up 25, Williams has set himself an impressive platform for the remainder of the year.

Fastest road bike went to High Peak Cycles RT’s Tom Minshull in 23-13, which was also enough for ninth overall, while quickest youth was Duncan Whalley in 27-58 for ABC Centreville, and top junior on the day went to Matthew Siepen (Seamons CC) in 23-35.

On age adjusted times veteran Williams clocked 20-33, with Sally Cunliffe (Velotik Racing Team) second in 21-14, and 360cycling’s Kevin Blades third in 21-28.

Alice Taylor

In the women’s event Taylor topped the standings in 23-15 – a time good enough for joint tenth overall – with Emma-Jane Bradfield (Total Tri Training) finishing second in 25-29, and third place going to Jadan Vive Le Velo rider Hebe Picking in a time of 26-19.

On her win, Taylor said: “I was pleased to take the win after getting a puncture at last week’s 50-mile event, so for me just completing this I was super happy as a team mate lent me a front wheel so I could take part.

“Thank you to all the marshals and support team for a good event of which we could see split times for our performance which was pretty cool.”

This 10-mile event, run on the J4/20 course, starts just east of Byley on Moss Lane and continues eastbound to Cranage before turning northbound to Allostock then the B5081 to Toft where riders head south to pass Lower Peover and Swan Green, finishing just before Hulme Hall Lane.
