Linda Dewhurst set a new national age group record to retain her VTTA National 15-Mile Championship title on Sunday, while Richard Oakes secured his third win of the season in the open category.

Riding for Ride Revolution Coaching, Dewhurst topped the standings with an unbeaten age-adjusted time of 26-50, staving off competition from Sarah Matthews (...a3crg) who clocked 27:29, while Lucia Borradaile of CC Weymouth set 29:17 to secure third.

A fine ride from Dewhurst saw her finish nearly 40 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor to set a new record and retain the title she won last season.

“I was very pleased with the result, and to retain the title from last year whilst setting a new national age group record was brilliant!” said Dewhurst.

“The course conditions and marshals were super, although the flat course did seem a bit uphill at times! It was a brilliantly organised event run by Newbury Velo.”

In the Open category Oakes (Team Ohten Aveas) recorded an age-adjusted time of 27-15 to take the title, ahead of Michael Lythgoe (Kenilworth Wheelers) and Mike Twelves (Team Ohten Aveas), who both set 27-41 to finish joint second.

It is now Oakes’ third CTT win of the season after claiming titles at the Witham Wheelers and Bedfordshire Road Cycling Club 10-mile time trials earlier in the year.

Robin Kirk of Velo Club Godalming & Haslemere was the fastest road bike rider with an actual time of 31-32, good enough for 23rd overall.

This 15-mile event, run on the H15/3 course, begins adjacent to Sole Plantation on Ermin Street where it heads east before turning towards Hungerford at Bath Road Junction. Retracing its steps, it finishes on the A4 next to Milkhouse Road.
