Road bike competitor Ida Smith (Onyx RT) took victory on her first course outing in the Farnham Road Club ten mile time trial, while Peter Allan (Team Velo Sportif) won the men’s event by a single second.

Veteran rider Smith was riding on a new road bike and was the only woman to break the 26-minute mark – stopping the clock in 25-59.

Meanwhile, fellow veteran competitor Allan took his fourth open victory of the season by the narrowest of margins.

The slightly undulating H10/8 course saw competitors battle out and back along the A31 from Farnham and Alton in Hampshire.

Riders were met by a damp Sunday morning for the event but the rain held off and some riders were rewarded for their efforts with fast times.

Entry also increased from last year for the Farnham Road Club organised event.

Smith, from Kingston on Thames, celebrated turning 45 the following day by winning her first open event on the season.

Fellow veteran and quickest time trial bike competitor Gail Walker (Velo Club Godalming & Haslemere) was second overall in 27-49 and Ginetta George (Total Tri Training) was third (31-01).

“It was fun,” said Smith. “Conditions were probably not the fastest, it was windy for my liking. It was my first time on that course and so I didn’t know what to expect.

“It was below my personal best time but it was a bit more undulating than where I set my personal best.

“I was competing on my new road bike for the first time, it’s a really nice bike and I enjoyed racing on it.”

Allan also won the Reading CC 25 last weekend and did just enough to add another win to his collection in a time of 20-33.

Scratch rider Renzo Casale (University of Bath Cycling Club) continues his search for a first individual open win of the season after finishing just one second back in 20-34.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Besly (Dorking Cycling Club) completed the open podium positions with the veteran stopping the clock in 21-07.

Adam Page (Paceline RT) took his first road bike category victory after posting a time of 22-01 which was 20 seconds quicker than his team-mate Matt Phipps-Taylor in 22-21.

Completing the road bike podium positions was Jacob Crossley (CGC) who finished in 23-28.

The women’s road bike winner was also the overall victor Smith, while the only other female road bike competitor was Lindsay Bamford (Farnham RC) who posted 32-14.
