Peter Allan claimed a fourth win of the season in the open category at the Reading CC Clive Pugh Memorial 25-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with Laura Nagi finishing as fastest female to claim her first ever time trial victory.

Riding for Team Velo Sportif, Allan clocked 51-15 to seal victory, just outside Haydn James’ course record of 49-15, with Michael O’Keefe (London Dynamo) in second with 51-29, and a time of 51-54 helping Renzo Casale (University of Bath CC) to the final spot on the podium.

After opening his campaign with victory at …a3crg 17.6-mile time trial on March 10, Allan also picked up wins as quickest road bike at Velo Club Velta 9.9-mile time trial on May 11, then overall winner at North Hampshire Road Club 10-mile time trial on May 18 to ensure he has four wins from 10 rides so far in 2024.

In the women’s event, Nagi was 90 seconds behind Lizi Duncombe’s course record of 57-30, clocking 59-00 for Reading Cycling Club, while Cheltenham and County CC’s Jo Wilkie managed second place in 1:01-01 and London Dynamo’s Alex Forbes picked up third place in 1:03-45.

On her win, Nagi said: “Today was a really well organised event put on by Reading CC! I did the 50-mile time trial earlier in the year and the course surface is great compared to a few years ago!

“I got a PB back at the 50 earlier this year but didn’t quite get under two hours. So today my goal was to try and break the hour.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have gone under an hour! It’s something that has been a goal for me the past two years! It is a nice confidence boost and I have never won a CTT event overall before so super chuffed about that too.

“The conditions were pretty nice out there but could definitely feel the head wind - so I just tried to keep the pressure on.

“The next big race in the season for me is a middle distance triathlon in Weymouth and hopefully the Welsh 50-mile Championship on the 28th September if the above goes well!”

In other categories the quickest road bike was Michael Nagi (Reading Cycling Club) in 55-30 in the open category.

This event, run on the H25/1A course, is an out-and-back circuit that starts at Theale-Englefield Airstrip and heads southeast past Aldermaston Wharf until reaching Thatcham where riders turn and follow the route back and onto Theale, before repeating the circuit twice more and finishing in the same location as the start line.
