Henrik Persson made it two successive victories after winning the open category at the Westerley CC 25-mile time trial in Buckinghamshire on Sunday morning, with Emma McDermott taking the honours in the women’s grouping.
Having also topped the standings at the Finsbury Park CC 50 on June 29, Persson backed it up with an impressive ride of 49-54, falling just outside Ollie Hucks’ course record of 47-09.
In second came Renzo Casale (University of Bath CC) in 50-07, with a time of 51-53 helping Twickenham CC rider Gareth Williams to third spot.
On his win, Persson said: “I am very pleased to have won and that we managed to squeeze the race into the one dry window this weekend!
“I’ve wanted to go sub-50 on this course for many years and frankly that was my objective today, even though I must say that I genuinely didn’t think I’d ever be fast enough to achieve it.
“I came into this with a fair amount of confidence after a good few results recently and so I just threw caution to the headwind!
“I really benefitted from having several team mates on the start list that kept morale and confidence up, and credit to the guy who came second as I saw him flying out of the turn and the fear that he’d fly away kept me going on the home run.”
In the women’s event, McDermott (Oxonian CC) set 1:07-06 to defeat Jill Bartlett (Hounslow and District Wheelers) in 1:14-25.
Persson then finished seventh in his opening ride of the season at Hounslow and District Wheelers 100 on May 26, before sixth at the ...a3crg 50 before taking third place at the Welsh CA 100-Mile Championship on June 23 before winning at Finsbury Park CC.
This event, run on the H25/2 circuit, is a 25-mile out-and-back course that tarts just south of High Wycombe and heads southbound along the A404 past Marlow until reaching the A404 motorway junction where riders head westbound on Bath Road and then, at Charvil, turning and following the route back along he Bath Road and the A404 to finish just east of Marlow.
