Kate Allan (Team Bottrill) started her season by knocking over two minutes off her own course record to become fastest woman at the Maidenhead & District CC 15, while long distance specialist Lee Williams (FTP Fulfil the Potential Race Team) won the open event.

Allan won four national titles last season but was planning a more subdued year in 2024.

The 39-year-old, from Maidenhead, showed her knowledge of the course to set a time of 35 minutes and 11 seconds, beating her previous record of 36-18 set in 2022.

The 15-mile event near Winkfield consists of an undulating loop around the Berkshire countryside with competitors completing one-and-a-half laps and then a finishing section.

Allan was in fine form with her time good enough for third overall and seven minutes faster than her nearest woman competitor.

The remaining women’s podium positions were fought between London Dynamo riders Alexa Forbes (42-17) and Selina Clifford (43-00).

“I wasn’t supposed to be racing this year but I fancied doing a local race of roads that I train on,” said Allan.

“It went okay, I didn’t feel at my best but took a big chunk off my course record. I wasn’t on form but really enjoyed it.

“It’s a lumpy and mildly sporting but good course and was windy in places. With the M25 closed it was the busiest that I’ve known it and I was held up by cars going towards junctions.”

Allan plans next to be in action on Good Friday in the High Wycombe CC 10.

In the open event Williams was clear winner posting a time of 34-30 which was 36 seconds quicker than his nearest competitor.

The 39-year-old, from Fleet in Hampshire, won three open events last season and placed eighth in the National 12-hour Championship.

Fellow Fulfil The Potential RT rider Tom Quinlan finished second in 35-06, while Ben Payne (Maidenhead & District CC) was third male competitor in 35-23.

“I hadn’t done that course or distance before so I didn’t have anything to compare it against,” said Williams.

“I was slightly under my targeted power but will be focusing on longer events this season. I quite enjoyed the course as it had a bit of everything, fast sections, hilly sections, it was a really good course.

“This season I plan to target the National 24-hour, BBAR and World 24-hour which takes place in America in November.”

Quickest road bike competitor was Raif Ososki (Kingston Wheelers CC) whose time of 35-34 placed him fifth overall. Second in the road bike competition was Christopher Morrison (Chaingang RT) in 37-22.

Meanwhile, tricycle competitor Judith Swallow (VELO CLUB 167) completed the course in 54-48.
