Carolyn Pfalzgraf and David Mead finished as winners in the women’s and open categories respectively, at the penultimate round of the Northampton and District CA series on Saturday afternoon.
Pfalzgraf (VeloElite RC) clocked 26-55 for the course near Rothwell to take the win by 1-49 from Kettering CC’s Maria Cayford, while road biker Amy Metcalf (Northants Tri Club) took third.
And in the open event Mead (Team Enable-MI Racing) took the win by just seven seconds, his time of 20-35 leaving Leon Wright (Pedal Power Loughborough) to settle for second in 20-42, while Peterborough CC’s Paul Pardoe was third in 21-02.
“I was really happy with another win and managed to equal George Fox’s course record,” said Mead. “The wind wasn't favourable with a tail wind on the downhill section so I’m mega happy to PB the course.
“My season is going very well considering I'm having to spend a lot of time with my father as he's not very well. I don't get all this training malarkey!”
Behind the top three, Pardoe’s team-mate at Peterborough CC Jamie Murray finished fourth fastest with 21-20, while course record holder George Fox finished fifth overall and first on a road bike in 21-33. Eleven seconds behind him, his team-mate Jack Patmore completed the top six with 21-44.
This was Mead’s ninth open time trial victory of the season having first taken a win back in April at the A5 Rangers CC 17-mile event. He has since gone on to win several other events across the district, including an impressive19-24 in the Melton Olympic CC 10 which was just 20 seconds shy of being a lifetime PB for the 48-year-old.
He next plans to tackle the Coventry CC 10 next Sunday.
The event used the quiet N3/10 course on minor roads, beginning near Lamport and heading up to Rothwell where it tracks alongside the A14, turns, then heads back down to the finish.
