Paul Pardoe

Paul Pardoe retained his title as the fastest open category rider at the Northampton and District CA 12.8-mile trial on Sunday, with Leah Cuthbertson riding to victory in the women's category.

Peterborough CC rider Pardoe clocked 28-20 to finish ahead of Jack Patmore (George Fox Cycling Solutions) in second with 29-30, while Jamie Murray (Peterborough CC) was only four seconds back in 29-34 to finish third.

Pre-race Spindata favourite George Fox (George Fox Cycling Solutions) just missed out on the podium positions, clinching fourth with a time of 30-14.

Pardoe now has back-to-back titles to his name after the veteran claimed victory at last year's edition of the race, as well as a second overall win this season.

On his win, Pardoe said: “I’m really happy with the result! I feel like I've been in some good form this season without that translating to many wins, so having won this event last year I was super motivated to give it a good go.

“I've also been having a good battle all year with George Fox in the N&DCA league, so that's always extra motivation.

“This is a properly sporting course where you're either going up or down with only a few flat sections, it’s not one where you settle into a rhythm. With a very strong headwind for the first half of the loop my plan was just to go out hard and aim to hold on, knowing there were some fast downhill sections with a tailwind towards the finish.

“So to get the win and improve the course record I set last year along with friend and club mate Jamie Murray also getting on the podium and, I think, this combined with Kevin Hobbs' great ride meant we got the team prize for Peterborough CC made for a great Sunday morning!”

In the women’s category, Cuthbertson (Onyx RT) topped the standings with an unmatched time of 35-54, ahead of Welland Valley CC rider Linda Hubbard who set 37-33, while the final spot on the podium went to Carolyn Pfalzgraf of VéloElite RC in 38-25.

In addition to completing the course as the fastest female, Cuthbertson finished as the fastest female on a road bike, while Fox was the quickest road bike competitor overall.

This 12.8 mile event, run on the NC13C course, starts on Ashley Road in Middleton where it loops around Sutton Bassett Hill before turning east outside Market Harborough to finish just south of its start location on the B670.
