Helen Roby powered to victory in the women’s category at the Northampton and District 15-mile trial on Saturday, with George Fox claiming top prize in the open category.

Riding for Ride Revolution Coaching, Roby posted 38-25 to finish top of the standings ahead of Lindsay Clarke (Fenland Clarion CC) who clocked 39-35, while Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club rider Kerry Brennand finished on the final podium place and as the fastest female on a road bike in 41-01.

On her win, Roby said: “I was really pleased and surprised to take the win. It was the first race I had done on a TT bike this year, having done a couple on a road bike earlier in the year. I only got back on the TT bike two weeks ago, so still getting used to riding it again.

“The conditions were tough, with very gusty crosswinds at times and headwind on the way out. I was glad it was predominately tailwind on the way back.”

In the open category, Fox (George Fox Cycling Solutions) recorded 31-09 to win the event ahead of host club rider Paul Pardoe by six seconds, who set 31-15, while Jack Patmore of George Fox Cycling Solutions finished third in 31-54.

This is Fox’s second successive victory having recorded a win at the Kettering CC 15-mile time trial last weekend.

Fastest road bike went to Steven Brierley VéloElite RC who recorded 35-40, while Fenland Clarion CC’s James Atkins claimed second spot with 37-28, ahead of David Webster (Velouse Flyers) who finished just over a minute behind in third with 38-34.

BehindKerry  Brennand in the women’s road bike standings were Carolyn Pfalzgraf (VéloElite RC) in 43:43 and Rockingham Forest Wheelers’s Lynne Scofield who clocked 50-25 to finish third.

This 15-mile event, run on the N1/15 course, sets off from Alconbury Hill Industrial Estate where it heads north on the B1043 before turning back at Normans Cross to finish next to its start location.
