Veteran rider Neil Cleminshaw (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo) and road bike competitor Samantha Bissell (City Road Club Hull) went quickest at the Darlington CC/VTTA North event over 25 miles.

Cleminshaw recorded a winning time of 54 minutes and 15 seconds – two minutes quicker than any other competitor.

Storm Kathleen did its best to disrupt the field at the event, which incorporated the RAF National TT Champs.

A 22 miles per hour south south-westerly wind was gusting to over 40 mph across the Yorkshire course, making machine and wheel choice critical.

Competitors completed two circuits of an out and back course on the A6055 adjacent the A1(M).

Roughly a third of the 95 riders chose either not to ride or did not finish, the latter including race favourite Jack Levick (Rose Racing Team).

The RAF also converted their time trial championships event to a road bike competition in anticipation of the forecast high winds. 

Despite the challenging conditions around 65 riders competed with Cleminshaw finishing a full two minutes clear of second placed rider William Lewis (Royal Air Force CA) on a road bike in 56-15. 

Third place overall went to Ian Johnson (Manilla Cycling) in 56-30 after an adjustment for a late start.

In the women’s field Bissell took her first individual open victory of the season stopping the clock in 1-06-08.

Lois Jarvis (Muckle CC) finished second in 1-07-26 ahead of another road bike competitor in the form of Laura Sheppard (RAF CA) with 1-09-16. 

The top team of three was RAF CA consisting of William Lewis, Sam Murray and Adam Baker.

The event was also VTTA qualifying and fastest male on time adjustment was Cleminshaw in 51-35 and fastest female was Bissell (59-46).

Fastest male road bike was Lewis who finished second place overall. He finished ahead of Josef Murray (Protech Velo) in second (57-07) and Adam Baker (RAF CA) third (57-54).

Bissell was the quickest female on a road bike ahead of Laura Sheppard (RAF CA) in 1-09-16 and Tina Hartwell (RAF CA) in third (1-20-10).

Competing on a tricycle Chris Goode (Yorkshire Coast Clarion CC) stopped the clock in 1-25-25.
