Tim Strickland made it two wins from two events with victory in the open grouping at the Kingston Wheelers Leith Hill climb, while Hannah Slater won in the female category.
Riding for Go Fast Turn Left, Strickland followed up a win on his hill climb debut at Cycle Club Basingstoke Watership Down Hill Climb on September 8 with another success here, clocking 3:54-2 to see off the rest of the field and maintain his impressive unbeaten start.
Behind him was a very competitive field, with Matthew Ferguson (Redhill Cycling Club) second in 3:57-3 and Foran CCC’s Dominic Jackson third in 3:58-3 – with places four to seven separated by just 4.2 seconds in what was a hard-fought contest.
Next up, Strickland plans to tackle the Bec Cycling Club hill climb on October 13 before the Sussex Nomads Ditchling Beacon hill climb a week later on October 20.
The women’s event also saw a relative newcomer triumph, with Slater setting a time of 5:49-2, a to ensure the Charlotteville Cycling Club rider finished ahead of promoting club pair Alex Joss and Anne-Line Vadier, who posted 5:58-3 and 6:11-3 respectively.
This event, held on course GH/42, is a hill climb that starts in Leith Hill Lane, just east of Forest Green, and heads northbound up Leith Hill for 0.8 miles to finish at the summit on Leith Hill Road.
