Cris Coxon earned his sixth win of the season in the open category at the East Sussex CA 10-mile time trial on Saturday, while Sally Turner finished as the fastest female rider with her third win in a row.

Riding for Brighton Mitre CC, Coxon posted an unbeaten 20-04 to claim the title ahead of team-mate Adrian Ford, who clocked 20-43 to finish runner-up, whilst a time of 21-33 saw David Clark of Eastbourne Rovers CC finish in third position.

It is a second consecutive win on the bike for Coxon after the veteran topped the standings at the Southern Counties CU 25-mile time trial last weekend.

“I really enjoyed it. The ESCA events are always well run and friendly, and we had little break from the rain with light winds, so conditions were reasonably good,” said Coxon.

“Definitely feeling the end of season fatigue after quite a lot of racing this year, but I paced myself well and it was great to get the win alongside my team-mate Adrian who finished second, and Cosmo who won the road bike category in his first time trial.

“The 10 is part of a double weekend for me with a 25 on the Sunday which I’ve unfortunately had to DNS, but I'm looking forward to squeezing a few more in before the season winds down!”

In the women’s category, Turner (HUUB WattShop) came out on top in 22-39, ahead of Jacqui Lane (Eastbourne Rovers CC) who finished second with 25-52, while Eastbourne Rovers CC rider Anita Turner secured third with a time of 27-21.

For Turner, it is a third straight win on the time trial bike after she claimed the women's category title at the Team TMC and Southdown Velo 10-mile time trials last month.

“I’m happy with my third time trial win in a row,” she said. “This course is always tough, especially in the last mile where you think you're about to post a great time, but it often doesn't quite work out.

“I missed my course personal best by ten seconds today - it would've been nice to get that, but there's always next time. It's a great local event for me, and I'm always thankful for the organisers who put these events together.”

Espoir Cosmo Derangi (Brighton Mitre CC) was the fastest rider on a road bike with 21-52, a time good enough for fourth overall, while Luca Geddes Gassco of Preston Park Youth was crowned winner of the junior category in a time of 22-38.

This 10-mile event, run on the G10/87, begins on South Street, East Hoathly, where it heads south to Upper Horsebridge. Upon u-turning at Boship Roundabout, it retraces its steps to finish on East Hoathly Bypass adjacent to Moat Wood.
