Kerry McGawley recorded back-to-back women’s victories as she won the Sussex CA 15-mile time trial on Saturday morning, while her Brighton Mitre CC team-mate Cris Coxon was the quickest ride in the open category.

McGawley topped the women’s standings with a time of 37 minutes and 52 seconds to claim the title ahead of Jacqui Lane (Eastbourne Rovers CC), who clocked 39-44 to finish runner-up.

For McGawley, it was back-to-back victories after coming out on top in the East Sussex 50-mile time trial in June.

Also riding for Brighton Mitre CC, Coxon recorded 30-46 to stave off competition from Karl Robertson (Worthing Excelsior CC), who set 33-15 for second place, while a time of 34-14 was enough to see Paul Tippett of Crawley Wheelers CC finish third.

Setting the third fastest-ever time on the course, Coxon sealed his fourth win of the season in emphatic style with a gap of over two minutes on his nearest competitor.

On his win, Coxon said: “I was happy to get the win today, it’s a local course for me and quite a tough one with a few hills right at the end which always hurt the legs.

“I suffered some traffic issues and my power hasn’t quite come back after illness, but I rode it pretty well overall and it’s always nice to support a local event.

“We have a great community of riders and volunteers in the Sussex area who really make these events.

“It's massively appreciated and always nice to catch up with people afterwards.

“I’m doing Circuit Nationals on Sunday with the road bike. I’m not sure how that’ll go but I'm hoping to enjoy the rest of the season, which suddenly seems to be disappearing fast!”

David Pollard of VTTA (Surrey/ Sussex) was the fastest rider on a road bike with 36-09, a time good enough for seventh overall, while Mark Vowells (San Fairy Ann CC) set a new National Veterans' record for a 71-year-old male rider with 39-39.

This 15-mile event, run on the G15/92 course, starts in Washington where it heads south east to Shoreham-by-sea. Retracing its steps to Wiston, the event finishes 1.5 miles east of its start location.
