Simon McNamara powered to victory at the Team TMC 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning, while Sally Turner finished as the fastest rider in the women’s category.
McNamara, riding for Sigma Sports Race Team, recorded a time of 19-31 to claim top prize and finish ahead of his brother and team-mate Chris McNamara, who set an equally impressive 20-33 on a road bike, while host club rider James Bullen finished in 20-47 for third.
This was a third win of the season for the veteran rider, and his first since victory at Southdown Velo 10-mile time trial back in May.
“I was really happy with my ride this morning,” said McNamara. “It’s my local course and one that I started out on years ago. There aren’t many open events that use the course so it’s good to get the opportunity to race on it. TMC did a great job at promotion and the event was super well run.
“There are some fast sections and some grippy drags, so the plan was to go over on the hard bits and take it steady on the fast sections. My brother rode in the road bike category and was a good carrot to have up the road.
“I have the masters road race nationals next Saturday and the closed circuit on Sunday, so I hope to ride in both.”
In the women’s category Turner (HUUB WattShop) sealed the win in 21-56, ahead of Eastbourne Rovers CC rider Anita Turner, who clocked 27-15 to finish in second.
Turner’s victory made sure it was back-to-back wins for her on the bike after a winning performance at Chichester City Riders’ 25-mile time trial in June.
In the road bike category Chris McNamara’s second place finish overall was enough to see him take home top spot ahead of Bullen, and make it two wins from two for the McNamara brothers.
This 10-mile event was run on the G10/98 course which begins at the top of Washington Bostal Hill where it heads to Findon. After turning at School Hill it reaches Ashington on the A24 before turning south to finish on the Pike.
