Liam Maybank broke the course record to earn victory at Addiscombe CC’s 10-mile time trial on Saturday, with Alice Connor finishing fastest in the female category.

Maybank (Twickenham CC) topped the standings with 19-24, ahead of Colin McDermott (Festival Road Club) who had to settle for second with 20-52, while road bike rider Adam Page (Paceline RT) sealed the last podium position in a time of 21-59.

Maybank lived up to his billing as pre-race Spindata favourite to secure his sixth win of the season and break the course record of 20-10 set by Chris McNamara in April 2019.

“It was quite a fun course today,” said Maybank. “I had good legs and a clean run on the narrow sections. I wasn't sure how I felt warming up, but once in the race everything went well and it was nice to take the course record as well.

“The conditions were nice and warm given the course is fairly sheltered from a west wind except for about a mile after the turn.”

In the women’s category Connor (London Academy Racing) clocked 24-23 to fight off competition from Alexa Forbes (London Dynamo), who set 25-30 to seal second place, while a time of 25-43 saw Jacqui Lane of Eastbourne Rovers CC finish in third.

Veteran Connor came into this race off the back of a win at the Horsham Cycling 10-mile time trial in June, and made it a second consecutive victory here in West Sussex as she finished over a minute faster than her nearest rival.

Simon Church (trainSharp) was the second fastest rider on a road bike in the field after Page’s third place overall finish, clocking 23-31, while Teresa Goddard (Kingston Wheelers CC) was the fastest female rider on a road bike with 26-20.

This 10-mile event, run on the G10/41 course, begins on Marches Road where it heads north through Kingsfold before looping around on the A29 to finish adjacent to Place Farm.
