Christopher Mcnamara maintained his strong start to the season with victory at the Horsham Cycling 10-mile time trial on Saturday morning in Sussex, while Alice Connor finished as quickest female on the course.

Riding for Sigma Sports Race Team, Mcnamara was the only rider to break the 20-minute mark, clocking 19-48 to see off trainSharp’s Howard Shaw who set 20-03, while a time of 20-27 helped Colin McDermott of Festival Road Club to the final spot on the podium.

“This was a really nice promotion from Horsham CC,” said Mcnamara. “It was a bit chilly morning but not bad conditions and after a 100 and a 50-mile time trial it was quite nice to do something shorter and although I didn’t manage my planned negative split - I just didn’t have the legs I wanted - it was just about enough on the day.

“I am back into the 50-mile time trials now for the next three weeks.”

In the women’s event, Connor (London Academy Racing) set 24-00 for victory, with fastest team of three going to the promoting club trio of Nolan Heather, Sam Leach and Ferenc File in a cumulative time of 1:08-16.

In the road bike category, Matt Phipps Taylor (Paceline RT) set 21-41 to triumph, with Kevin Newlyn (Sussex Revolution VC) taking second place in 22-00.

Quickest junior rider was Oscar Lawrence (Velo Club Venta) in 20-10, with Horsham Cycling’s James Newland the top Espoir in 24-24.

Conditions this year were good, warm at 7am and just a gentle breeze, with a total of 36 entries including 28 riders on time trial bikes and 8 on road bikes - an increase of four from 2023.

This event, run on the G10/97 course, is an out-and-back circuit that starts near Wiston Park on the A283 and curves southbound through Steyning and Bamber until reaching the Horsham Bypass, where riders turn and retrace the route back along the A283
