Paul Burton continued his fine season with victory at the Bec CC 10-mile time trial in Surrey on Saturday, with Rachel Dumbrell claiming victory in the women’s category.
Riding for Paceline RT, Burton clocked 19-21 to take the top prize ahead of Simon who McNamara (Sigma Sports Race Team) finished second in 19-46, while Ben Elliott’s (Paceline RT) time of 20:12 helped him finish in third.
So far this season, Burton has won at Paceline RT and the Redhill CC 18-mile event as well as finishing fastest on a road bike at the a3crg TT.
On his win, Burton said:” Despite this being my local course that I race and train on regularly, I’ve always struggled to ride a fast time on it - it’s a really tricky course.
“So I’m really pleased to finally go under 19:30 and bank a good ride as I get back into the swing of racing the TT bike after a spring road bike campaign. And any win against one of the evergreen McNamaras is a good ride!”
Fastest road bike went to James Hughes (Bec CC) who recorded 26-30 whilst Mona Chammas (PDQ Cycle Coaching) took top prize as the fastest female on a road bike.
In the women’s event Dumbrell of CC London topped the standings as her time of 23-34 was enough to stave off competition from Jacqui Lane (Eastbourne Rovers CC) who finished in 25:49 and Chammas who claimed third spot on the podium.
This 10-mile out and back event, run on the G10/42 course, heads south from South Holmwood on Horsham Road before turning back at Clark’s Green to finish on Spook Hill.
