Simon McNamara continued his fine start to the 2024 campaign with another victory at the East Sussex 10-mile time trial on Saturday morning, while Kate Parrish won the women’s event.

Riding for Sigma Sports Race Team, McNamara set a time of 20-51 to seal his second success of the season, finishing ahead of Marek Siwicki (Addiscombe CC) who was 59 seconds back in 21-50, while third place went to Stuart Bettis (One Resourcing RT) in 21-58.

In his four rides this season, McNamara began with victory at the Southern Counties CU 10-mile time trial on March 16, second at the Velo Club St Raphael 16.5-mile time trial, and again at the Brighton Mitre CC 27.3-mile time trial on April 1, before a third consecutive second place at the VTTA 10-mile time trial on April 13.

On his victory, McNamara said: “I was quite happy with my ride, the conditions were pretty tough with a cold northerly making the return leg tough!

“I tried to hold it back a little on the way out so that I could hopefully punch the drags on the last 2.5 miles, to be honest I was hanging a bit so just gave it what I had and held on to the finish.

“That had to be one of the toughest days that I’d ridden on the course! It is always a good event and well organised plus it was great to see Matt Woods there who was badly injured in the event last year.”

In the road bike category, Robert Lovatt (Team TMC) was quickest in 23-15, while a time of 24-25 helped Paul Fletcher (trainSharp) to the runner-up spot.

Riding a road bike, Parrish (Lewes Wanderers CC) topped the standings in the women’s event in 28-08, while second place went to Serpentine Running Club’s Hilary Briggs in 28-30, and the final spot on the podium was sealed by Anita Turner in 29-01.
