Cris Coxon maintained his impressive start to the season with victory at the VTTA (Surrey/Sussex) 10-mile time trial in Sussex on Saturday morning, while Ollie Thomas was fastest on a road bike.
Riding for Brighton Mitre CC, Coxon clocked 19-43 to see off competition from Sigma Sports RT rider Simon McNamara, whose 20-12 ensured he took second place, while Coxon’s clubmate Adrian Ford set 20-39 to seal the final spot on the podium.
Having begun his 2024 campaign with second place at Redhill CC 18-mile time trial on February 25 then claimed his first win at the Crawley Wheelers CC 41.6-mile on March 29, Coxon was the only rider to go under 20 minutes to secure a second successive triumph.
Coxon was also fastest on age-adjusted time in 19-20, ahead of McNamara in 19-39 while David Clark was third in 20-48.
On his win, Coxon said: “It was my first 10 this year so was happy to get the win and put a decent time down. The course isn’t super fast but it was a nice morning with light winds.
“I’ve also made a few small equipment and training tweaks which are helping, especially on the recovery side as I like to ride a lot and tend to be a bit fatigued for weekend races.
“I am hoping I can stick with it and have a good season, my next event is road bike nationals in two weeks’ time.”
In the road bike category, Sussex Revolution VC sealed a one-two with Ollie Thomas top of the standings in 23-01, while Steve Coombes managed 24-05 to finish a runner-up and a time of 24-32 helped Simon McLeod (Team TMC) to third spot.
Riders enjoyed great conditions on the course, with dry weather and sun alongside a gentle south westerly breeze.
This event, run on the G10/87 course, starts in East Hoathly and heads south on the A22 before turning southeast bound through Whitesmith and then Golden Cross before reaching the Horsebridge roundabout and turning to retrace the route back towards the start line to finish north of the start line.
