Tim Torrie

Timothy Torrie earned a stunning winning in the open category at the Brighton Mitre CC Hilly 27.35-mile time trial on Monday morning, with Gemma Freeman finishing as the quickest female.

On his first ride of the 2024 season, trainSharp winner Torrie clocked 1:01-11 to see off competition from 2023 winner and pre-race Spindata favourite Simon McNamara (Sigma Sports RT) who finished in 1:02-45, while a time of 1:03-42 helped Paceline RT’s Pat Wright to take the final spot on the podium.

“What a great place for a time trial!” said Torrie. “Good roads, not too busy, and beautiful views over Brighton from Devils Dyke.

“It’s nice to test the legs on a slightly more unusual distance. Going for just over the hour will stand me well for the rest of the year, especially considering the savage climb up Devil’s Dyke! I’m looking forward to another full season of time trialling.”

In the women’s event, Sussex Revolution VC’s Freeman set 1:17-27 with clubmate Megan Godber runner-up in 1:24-55.

First team went to Sussex Revolution VC with Olly Thomas leading Steve Coombs and Aaron Sparks-Carolan to 3:35-46 total time, 6 minutes ahead of local Team TMC.

Riders enjoyed good conditions, with a dry morning and 8 to 11 degrees with just a slight south-westerly starting to form on the course.

This event, run on the GS/999 course, starts on Devil’s Dyke Road in Red Hill, heading north towards Poynings then bearing westbound and tracking through Upper Beeding, down to Shoreham and back up to Small Dole and Woodmancote.
