Adam Duggleby broke the 20-minute barrier on his way to victory at the Harrogate Nova 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, with Sam Bissell finishing as quickest female.

Riding for ADDFORM Vive Le Velo, Duggleby secured an eighth victory from 13 events so far in 2024

On this occasion, no other rider could match sub-20 minutes as Duggleby clocked 19-30 to finish ahead of Otley Cycling Club pair Matthew Peace and Sam Ward who set 20-48 and 50-50 respectively with the former also finishing as fastest junior.

“They changed the course due to roadworks and I've never ridden that course but I knew the road well,” said Duggleby after the event.

“It's still lumpy and the wind was still the right way for a faster time with a south wind to push you back up the hill.

“It had five roundabouts so that slowed it a bit and an extra bridge to go over twice compared to original course.

“I rode okay and just went hard over the draggy bits and tried to push on in to the headwind on way out but I felt like I was struggling the last two miles but overall I rode okay.

“It was not my best but pretty average and still 19.30 and as the course has barely been used a course record for the 10mile.”

Duggleby’s previous wins include the 25-mile Macclesfield Wheelers tandem event in April, then Halifax Imperial Wheelers 10, Manchester BC two-up 10, City Road Club 8.5 and ADDFORM Vive Le Velo 10 in June, plus the Weaver Valley CC 25 and Cleveland Couriers 25 in July.

In the women’s event, Bissell (City Road Club Hull) was the pick of the field in 24-39 ahead of runner-up Rebecca Mason of Malton Wheelers who managed 24-55.

In the open road bike category, Martin Smithers of Doncaster Rovers went quickest in 25-08, with 40+ veteran winner going to Otley Cycling Club’s Ward in 20-50, Julian Ramsbottom claimed the veteran 50+ grouping in 21-08 for Team Bottrill, Veteran 60+ sealed by Seacroft Wheelers’ Mick Flaherty in 23-01 and a time of 26-06 helping Clifton Cycing Club’s Ian Hampton to Veteran 70+ success.

Riders enjoyed largely pleasant and warm conditions throughout the course as they competed in this Yorkshire Cycling Federation Points Series race.

This event, initially due to run on course V212, saw a last-minute switch to the V111 course running from Allerton Castle to Kirk Deighton on the A168.
