Elizabeth Bridgen (Velo Bavarian) was fastest female at the Sheffrec CC 10-mile event in South Yorkshire, while the promoting club’s Thomas Lee was fastest in the open category.
Saturday’s event was due to be held over 25 miles at the popular and well-used Hatfield Woodhouse course, but was shortened to the ten mile version due to a road closure on the M180 motorway which caused traffic to be diverted onto part of the course.
In the solo event Lee took the overall win in an impressive time of 19:50, winning the top senior category in the process. Second place was taken by Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) and third was Andy Thomas (Lindsey Roads Cycling Club), which also gave him first place in the veteran category.
There were four female entrants of which three rode on the day. Top woman was Elizabeth Bridgen (Velo Bavarian) in 24-49 which was 41 seconds better than Lou Kelly (Velo Bavarian) in second spot, while Paula Fisher (Born to Bike) was another 1-22 down in third place in the women’s category.
The club again offered a prize for the highest finisher on a road bike and this went to Bevan Jones (Barton Wheelers Cycling Club), who came in fifth overall in the process in a time of 22-12.
The two-up race was nicely split between four teams on time trial bikes and three riding road bikes.
The overall went to Matt Bottrill and Graham Waller (Team Bottrill) with a time of 20-16 which was 22 seconds better than the Team Lifting Gear pairing of Nicholas Latimer and Andrew Whiteley, while third quickest two-up team were the ADDFORM Vive le Velo pair of Andrew Miller and Sam Straw who were another 43 seconds back in 21-21.
There was also a prize for the first two-up road bike team which was won by Gavin Alcock and Jack Ainscough (7 Hills Cycling Club / Team Lifting Gear Products) in 23-02.
Conditions on the day were quite fair, dry but on the cool side with a moderate cross headwind on the outward leg of the course.
