Sarah Lewthwaite set a new women’s course record on the way to victory at the Yorkshire Coast Clarion 19.6-mile time trial in East Yorkshire, while Neil Cleminshaw was overall fastest by almost three minutes.
Lewthwaite (Born to Bike-Bridgtown Cycles) was sixth overall and fastest female in a time of 53-42 to win that category with ease and take the course record by around five minutes, 2-50 ahead of second female Rebecca Mason (Malton Wheelers) in 55-32.
Cleminshaw (ADDFORM-Vive le Velo) covered the V461 course in 46-19 to leave team-mate Sam Straw in second spot with 49-15, while third was Steve Guymer (Vive le Velo) who was another 14 seconds off the pace.
“I've not raced much recently but a challenging, hilly SPOCO in the Wolds is just the sort of course that appeals to me,” said Lewthwaite. “A punchy climb straight from the start woke the legs up before a long slog into the wind made me wish I'd ridden my TT bike.
“Then a long draggy climb before turning for the final mostly downhill leg with a surprise 12% kicker to finish - great course! Great organisation and support out on the route, thanks to Chris and his team of marshals.”
Meanwhile, Cleminshaw added: “My form has been much improved this season thanks to ADDFORM Performance Coaching. This event is my third open win of the season, which at 54 I'm pretty stoked about.
The race starts with a 10 per cent climb just round the first corner which cannot be seen from the start. The circuit of nearly 20 miles begins a short distance from Bridlington in East Yorkshire and heads into the Wolds.
There was a headwind on the main two mile climb out of Foxholes and this is where Lewthwaite and Cleminshaw secured their victories.
Fifteen-year-old Ben Harrington (Clifton CC) recorded an excellent 57:11 for victory in the junior category, while Steve Guymer (Vive Le Velo) was fastest with 49:29 in the road bike category, with Pete Fielding-Smith second in 54:30.
Scarborough Paragon CC’s Steve Dodds clocked 50-48 to finish as top 40-49, while in the 50-59 category in was Andy Whitehead (Rockingham CC) in 52-53.
Richard Guymer (Hull Thursday RC) clocked 1-02-14 to win the 60-69 category, while best over-70 was George Young (Clifton CC) in 1-02-19.
