Euan Adam (Durham City Velo) and Beth Grogan (Selby CC) were pushed closed for victory in the open and women’s event respectively at the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 10, while Joe House (VENTURE RACING) and Eleanor Stafford (Valley Striders Cycling Club) were fastest road bike competitors.
The V212 course saw riders compete on the A168 between Rabbit Hill Country Store just south of Boroughbridge and the Walshford roundabout.
The open course records held by Adam Duggleby (19-31) and Abi Smith (21-56) were untroubled in the early season event, but some close competition ensued.
Adam, aged 24, won two open events last season and placed fourth on the same course in the VTTA (Yorkshire) 10 two weeks earlier in 20-58.
The Durham City Velo rider was not to be denied on this occasion setting a winning time of 20-17 which was just seven seconds faster than Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) in 20-24, while Kieran Morris (Total Tri Training) closed out a closely fought podium (20-37).
Mark Wolstenholme (VTTA Yorkshire) was the quickest veteran on scratch posting 21-06 in fourth.
The women’s time trial event was just as closely fought with the top three riders separated by just 16 seconds.
Grogan, aged 25, also won the VTTA Yorkshire 10 on her last outing and took her second open victory of the season stopping the clock in 24-26.
Sophie Rotheram (University of Birmingham CC) finished just six seconds behind in 24-32, while Angela Hannon-Flaherty (Seacroft Wheelers) completed the women’s time trial bike podium positions (24-42).
VENTURE RACING rider House was quickest in the road bike category stopping the clock in 22-33 – over a minute clear of his nearest competitor.
A closer battle for second saw Michael Jenic (Clifton CC York) finish in 24-10 which was 19 seconds faster than Oliver Thorpe (Racing Team Dawson), while quickest junior was youth rider Oliver Thorpe (Racing Team Dawson) recorded a time of 24-29.
After finishing on the podium in the same event during the last two years Stafford secured victory on this occasion in the women’s road bike event in 28-22.
Finishing exactly a minute behind was Marjorie Davison (Ravensthorpe CC) in 29-22 and Jenny Moore (Bramley Wheelers CC) placed third (29-47).
Quickest junior girl was road bike competitor Elizabeth Atkin Johnson (Clifton CC York) who stopped the clock in 39-07.
The medium gear event restricted riders to gearing which did not exceed 72 gear inches.
Jymmy Trevor (City RC Hull) took top spot in 26-01 which was 38 seconds quicker than Chris Dugher (Selby CC) in second (26-39) and Richard Durham (Settle Wheelers) in third (31-04).
The quickest tricycle competitor was VTTA (North) competitor Paul Dawson who posted a time of 34-37.
