Hayley Wells (Wrekinsport CC) continued an impressive season by taking her 13th women’s victory at the West Cheshire Time Trial Cycling Association event over 25 miles, while Joshua Williams (Team Bottrill) stormed to the open win.
In just her second full season of time trialling Wells has stamped her authority on the Shropshire district and added another win in a time of 1-02-02 in tough conditions.
The D25/20 provided a sporting course for riders out and back along the A49 between Whitchurch and Battlefield Island, near Shrewsbury.
The early riders escaped the rain, but the rest experienced a tough final two miles in wet conditions.
Wells, aged 31, won the Wrekinsport event over 10 miles on her last open outing four weeks earlier and tasted success again on this outing.
Fellow Wrekinsport CC rider Deb Hutson-Lumb was the quickest veteran woman and finished runner-up in 1-05-54.
Completing the podium positions was Lisa Davies (VMCC powered by Y Beic) who completed the course in 1-07-05.
Scratch rider Williams, aged 32, was in stellar form with his winning time of 51-21 nearly four minutes clear of his nearest opponent.
The Team Bottrill rider finished 10th in the National 10-mile Championship last month and took his fourth open win of the season.
Leading the battle behind was 19-year-old Reuben Corlett (Birkenhead North End CC) who finished second in 55-06.
Completing the podium positions was quickest veteran on scratch Simon Romei (Paramount CRT) whose time of 55-48 was just seven seconds faster than Thomas Bill (Stafford RC) in 55-55.
“Today was a good day for me I felt good on what is such a hard course in the Shropshire scene,” said Williams.
“Carrying some good end of season form I wanted to make this my last 25-mile race of the year before building towards 2025.
“Having made a return to racing halfway through this year after seven years away from the sport it is nice to be back enjoying it again.
“Thanks to all the organisers and marshals who braved the torrential rain to make this event go ahead.”
