Kevin Tye earned his first win of the season with success at CC Bexley’s 10-mile time trial on Saturday, while Debbie Percival claimed top prize in the women’s category.

Riding for VeloRefined Rule 5, Tye clocked an unmatched 22-01, with Thanet RC rider and runner-up Mathew Lister merely seconds behind in 22-08, while a time of 22-37 helped Matthew Saunders of Team Vision Racing - Silverhook seal third sport on the podium.

Tye had earned third and second place finishes at the West Kent RC eight-mile time trial and Cambridge CC 15-mile time trial so far this season, but now has a victory to his name thanks to a ride which saw him finish seven seconds ahead of fellow veteran rider Lister.

In the women’s category, Percival (Medway Velo Club) topped the standings with a time of 27-16, fighting off competition from junior rider Emily Tanner (Woolwich CC), whose time of 29-38 saw her finish in second place and as the fastest female on a road bike, whilst Thanet RC rider Alice Tulett took third spot in 30-53.

On her win, Percival said: “There were windy conditions as always there. Under the circumstances I’m quite pleased with the time these days.

“It was on par with the few races I do these days and on that course - especially at my ripe old age, in my twilight years – I’ll take a win anytime!”

Neil Harrigan of Gemini BC was the fastest rider in the road bike category, recording 22:43 to finish ahead of Rob Kennison’s (Medway Velo Club) time of 25-21 and David Gearing’s (Woolwich CC) 25-42 to earn the top prize.

Fastest youth went to Douglas Tulett (Thanet RC) who clocked 22-56, whilst Alice Tulett finished in second with a time of 30-53.

This 10-mile event, run on the Q10/24 course, starts west of Grain Village where it travels along the A228 before turning at Fenn corner to retrace its steps and finish back in the Isle of Grain.
