Hannah O’Brien earned her fifth win of the season at the DAP CC 10-mile time trial on Saturday, with husband Matt O’Brien claiming victory in the open category.

Mrs O’Brien, riding for Loose Cannon's Conditioning, clocked a course personal best of 22-07 to take the title ahead of Denise Hurren (Sole Bay Cycle Sport), who set 3-09 to finish runner-up, while a time of 24-57 saw Julia Freeman (Easterly Road Club) into third position.

Victory here means she continues her rich vein of form, with this being her fourth win in five events stretching back to July.

“It was really rewarding to get a course PB,” she said. “I felt really strong on the way out and happy with my target power number. I got slightly held up at the roundabout and on the way back with traffic, so it was a little disappointing not to get under 22 minutes.

“Overall, though, I’m very pleased with my ride and to have taken part in a well organised event from DAP CC. A big thanks to everyone who helped today, it's much appreciated!”

In the open category Matt O’Brien (Loose Cannon's Conditioning) posted 19-53 to seal the victory ahead of Nick Partridge (Sole Bay Cycle Sport) who finished second in 20-42, while Terry Garlinge of Easterley Road Club took the final podium position with 20-55.

It is the second time this season the O’Briens have been crowned winners of the same event after their joint victory at the District 10 Championships back in June.

On his win, Matt said: “I had a goal of going sub-20 minutes on this course for a while so I was really pleased to achieve that.

“There was a tailwind going out which meant for a bit of a slog home and traffic held up a few riders, including myself. It was a well organised event, so thanks to DAP CC for their hard work in making it happen.”

Junior rider and host club member Toby Barnes recorded 21-36 to finish sixth overall, while Dominic Lowden of Diss & District CC was the first 65 plus veteran to cross the line in 21-25, finishing one place higher than Barnes in fifth.

This event used the B10/43 course, which begins on the A143 next to Church Lane before heading north. After u-turning at Broad Street roundabout outside of Bungay, it retraces its steps to finish just past Flixton Road.
