Hannah O’Brien and Mark Richards both claimed course records on their way to victory in the open category at the Velo Club Baracchi 50-mile time trial on Sunday.
In the women’s event, Loose Cannon’s Conditioning pair Hanah O’Brien and Lara Franklin claimed the top spots in 1:59-28 and 2:01-49 respectively, ahead of Sole Bay Cycle Sport rider Denise Hurren in 2:03-23 in third spot.
Each of the top three women surpassed the existing course record during their ride, with O’Brien ultimately coming out of this titanic tussle on top.
In posting 1:47-55, D A P Cycling Club rider Richards lowered Dan Blackburn’s existing course record mark by two minutes and claimed a sixth win from 11 rides so far this season.
Richards now has three successive wins to his name, having won at Godric Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on July 14 on course B25/50 before also triumphing at Diss and District Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on B25/17 on August 4.
The runners-up position went to Lloyd Chapman (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) in 1:53-42, with the final spot on the podium in Chris Owen (Cambridge Cycling Club) in 1:54-57.
This event, run on course B5/17R, is an out-and-back circuit that starts just north-east of Harleston and heads north east towards Bungay on the A143, turning at the traffic interchange to return back and riders then complete three further laps before finishing just north of the start line.
