Matt O’Brien earned a third win of the season at the East District CA 10-mile time trial on Saturday, while his wife Hannah O’Brien finished as the fastest female.

Riding for Loose Cannon's Conditioning, Matt recorded an unbeaten 20-29 to stave off competition from second placed Dan Blackburn (Epic Orange Race Team) who finished in 20-56, narrowly edging Chris Holmes (VC Norwich) who claimed third spot with a time of 20-58.

Having already earned wins at the Stowmarket & District CC 15-mile time trial and Lee Valley CC 25-time trial, Matt O’Brien now has victory at the East District CA 10 to add to his list of wins so far this season.

On his win, Matt said: “I was very pleased to win the EDCA 10-Mile Championship, making it two years running. The conditions were challenging with strong winds, especially with a headwind in the longest section of the course.

“I’m looking forward to some faster conditions over the month ahead and getting into the rhythm in June.”

“And it was a double win for the O’Brien household, with Hannah picked up her second district 10 victory and was in good form ahead of a couple of 50s in the next month.”

In the women’s category, Hannah O’Brien, also of Loose Cannon’s Conditioning, rode to victory in 23-03, ahead of Sarah Senderski (Kings Lynn Triathlon Club) in second place who clocked 24-57, while Claire Hall of Parenesis-TougHuman Cycling claimed the final spot on the podium in 25:00.

In addition to earning top prize in the open and women’s category, Matt and Hannah O’Brien also topped the standings in the veterans’ category, finishing in first and second place with +5-58 and +5-46, while Chris Holmes took third spot in +5-38, ahead of Dan Blackburn who finished with +5.31.

Fastest road bike went to David Webster of Velouse Flyers in 24-30, which was enough for 16th place overall, while Jacob Booth (Spalding CC), the only youth rider competing, finished with a time of 24:58 to earn himself 18th spot in the overall standings.

In the team event, King’s Lynn CC topped the standings in 1.16-03, ahead of second place Velouse Flyers by nine seconds whose trio of riders completed the course on road bikes.

This 10-mile event, run on the B10/37R course, starts in Runcton Holme where it heads south on the A10 before circling around to finish just west of Wormegay on Stoke Road.
