Mark Richards recorded a third win of the season with victory in the open category at Loose Cannon’s Conditioning 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, while Isabella Johnson triumphed in the women’s category.

DAP Cycling Club rider Richards clocked 22-00 to see off competition from Jamie Watson (Schils – Doltcini RT) in 23-39, while a time of 23-56 helped Plomesgate CC’s Peter Hurry to third place.

Richards has enjoyed a fine season so far with wins at Plomesgate CC 10-mile time trial on March 16 and Great Yarmouth CC 10-mile time trial on March 29 before this triumph, alongside runners-up finishes at DAP CC 10-mile time trial and CC Breckland 10-mile time trial, with his next target the VC Norwich 25 in late June.

“I knew the course was going to be tough with tight junctions and undulating terrain from my first experience this year,” explained Richards afterwards.

“I was unfortunate to get stuck behind a tractor in the final third of the course but was able to get past after a couple of attempts and try get back on the power. I stopped the clock just one second slower even with this interruption.

“Thanks go out to Lloyd and the Loose Cannon’s team for a great event.”

In the women’s event, Johnson (Jadan Vive Le Velo) finished ahead of the field in 25-51, with Judy Brown (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) almost three minutes back in 28-30, while CC Sudbury’s Sarah Johnson claimed the final spot on the podium in 30-30.

This event, run on the B10/9 course, is an out-and-back circuit that starts on the B1078 just south of Sudbourne with riders heading north west through Tunstall village and following the B1069 to continue south west until reaching the Bentwaters Airbase junction, to then retrace the route along the B1069 & B1078 past the start, where riders turn left and finish south west of Sudbourne village.
