Team Bottrill’s David Halliday proved quickest at the VC Baracchi Bank Holiday 10-mile time trial in Norfolk, while there was a tie for the women’s prize between Denise Hurren and Isabella Johnson.
The two fastest females both clocked 24-41 with Hurren (Sole Bay Cycle Sport) and Johnson (Jadan Vive Le Velo) sharing the prizes.
Halliday’s time of 20-04 saw him take overall victory by 39 seconds from Dan Blackburn (Epic Orange RT), with Mark Richards (DAP CC) third, another 11 seconds off the pace.
The event took place in sunny conditions on the B10/43 course near Harleston in south Norfolk, with warmer temperatures than of late.
The outward leg was into a slight headwind for most competitors, while it was faster on the flat return leg.
“I was looking forward to this one, I really like the B10/43 course and it’s always worth the trip east from Cambridgeshire,” said Halliday. “It can be quite fast with the outbound leg being a mile longer than the return, but today we had a headwind out which made for slower times.
“I was delighted to take the win for Team Bottrill. I paced the course really well with the wind, and I’m starting to see the rewards of a long winter of training.
“I was 20 seconds slower than my last ride on the course a month ago, but I was much happier with my ride given the change in conditions. Thanks to Velo Club Baracchi and all the volunteers for putting on a great event.”
In other categories Sole Bay Cycle Sport took the team prize, while quickest on road bikes were Justin Brown (Beccles Tri Club) in 25-51 and CC Sudbury’s Sarah Johnson in 28-40.
Cambridge CC veteran Chris Dyason was the top veteran on age adjusted time.
