Thomas Lee powered to victory in the open category at Melton Olympic CC 25-mile time trial on Saturday, while Denise Burrows claimed top prize in the female category.

Riding for Sheffrec CC, Lee set an unmatched time of 48-28 to finish one place above his Spindata predicted finish and see off competition from Tristan Pilling (360 Cycling) who finished in second with another sub-fifty minute ride of 49-09. Veteran rider Richard Oakes (Team Oaten Aveas) recorded a time of 49-46, which was enough to see him finish in third place and earn a spot on the podium.

It was 23-year-old Lee’s second victory of the season after setting a new personal best in 10-mile time trialling at Sheffrec CC BBAR last month.

In the women’s event, Burrows (AeroCoach) clocked 59-33 to top the standings ahead of Born to Bike’s Gretchen Zoeller who finished in 1:01-36, whilst Charlotte Dadd claimed the final spot on the podium in 1:01-52.

On her victory, Burrows said: “Though it was a bit chillier than the last couple of weekends, the weather was pretty good and the rain stayed away which was welcome.

“The easterly breeze did a helpful job on the outward leg but made the effort coming back a little tougher than I would have liked!

“I was delighted to go under the hour for a 25 for the first time since August 2021 and hope to push on and keep getting faster for the rest of the season. Big thanks to Melton Olympic CC for putting on another great event.”

Oakes’ age-adjusted time of 46-48 saw him take home the Veterans Award and the Jack Watts Memorial Trophy ahead of Mick Stevens in 47-15 (Melton Olympic CC) and Kathryn Smith with 48-49 (Seaford Wheelers CC), whilst in the road bike category Euan Bell finished fastest in 56-26.

This 25-mile event, run on the A25/34 course, is an out and back course that starts in East Stoke where it heads South along the A45 before turning at Stragglethorpe interchange and finishing on Fosse Road.
