Denise Burrows (AeroCoach) was fastest female at the VTTA East Midlands 10-mile time trial in Nottinghamshire on Saturday, while Jack Levick (Rose RT) took the honours in the open category.
Burrows covered the distance in 23-53 to finish as actual fastest female by 11 seconds from Legato Racing Team rival Susan Semple, while third was Gretchen Zoeller (Born to Bike), 30 seconds further adrift.
Levick’s time of 19-26 made him the fastest overall by 25 seconds from Richard Oakes (Team Ohten Aveas), with Ben Williams (Team Bottrill) third another six seconds back in third.
“The headwind to the turn was pretty challenging,” said Levick. “I just tried to tuck in as much as possible and not to go too daft with the power. Then, as always seems to be the case with the course, one heck of a tailwind to push you home. I just parked it in the 11 sprocket until the finish.
“It’s been tough old winter with some illness coupled with the first two races of the season going quite poorly for me. It was nice to see some form starting to return.”
And fastest female Denise Burrows said: “Despite the chilly headwind on the way out I was able to push on in the knowledge that the breeze would help me on the return leg.
“Having missed the first two races of my season due to a mechanical issue and then a race cancellation due to the weather, it was a pleasing first result of the season that has left me looking forward to what more I can achieve this year.”
The event was run off on a cold but fine day with a moderate north easterly breeze.
Team Bottrill riders did well, sweeping the board with the team prizes on both actual and age adjusted times.
