Madeline Moore and Andrew Whiteley proved victorious at Tickhill Velo Club’s 10-mile time trial in South Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon.

Moore, riding for TORQ Performance, clocked 23-54 to win the prize for fastest female on a time trial bike by 15 seconds from Velo Bavarian rival Rebecca Waterfield, while Amanda Dean (Velo Sport Racing) was third.

And in the open category Whiteley (Team Lifting Gear Products) covered the O10/1 course near Hatfield Woodhouse in 20-15 to win by six seconds from Team Bottrill veteran Julian Ramsbottom, with Andy Thomas (Lindsey Roads CC) third.

Promise of good weather was somewhat dashed by overnight rain, but the clouds cleared and most riders enjoyed some sunshine.

“Hats off to Tickhill for a really well attended and organised event,” said Whiteley.

“The murmur around HQ was that it was less than ideal conditions, but I reckon it was a fairly fast day despite the wind; I heard of a lot of PBs for the course.

“It's a course that I, and everyone around these parts, have done many times. I decided to test an approach with much more variance in power than I usually do to see what would happen.

“Even though it's a flat course, there are subtle changes in gradients which I dealt with as mini-mountains. Fluctuating the power much more gave a substantially lower average power, but seemed to work well, even with the hold ups.

“Unfortunately I got caught up in traffic both at the turn around and before the finish line. Compounded by the arrival of a traction engine on the course - that's new for me!”

And fastest female Moore said: “I loved every minute of the ride! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and there was fantastic support. By the time I reached the cow bells and calls at the turn I felt positively like an Olympian!

“I’d kind of hoped to break 23 mins, alas I was way off. But that just gives me something to aim for next time!”

The road bike prizes went to Jenny Down and Chris Dyke, while the event overall raised money for Eve’s Trust, a Doncaster-based cancer charity which raises money towards patients and their family fulfilling wishes.
